SIZE GUIDE

Finding the right size weighted blanket for yourself or your little one is the first step to better nights.

Children aged 1-5 years old

Our Junior Weighted blanket of 3.5 kilos is suitable for this age group.

Children this age – particularly age 1-3 – tends to sleep very restlessly which makes it necessary to have a good size blanket or else it will come off too easily.

The weighted blanket, however, has been shown to calm physical restlessness, promoting
deeper and more peaceful sleep.

Children aged 6-12 years old

For a child this age we recommend our adult size weighted blanket of 5 kilos.

Teenagers Aged 13-19 Years Old

For teenagers, we offer a selection of blankets of various sizes and weights. You can choose between blanket sizes of 140 x 200 cm or 140 x 220 cm, depending on your child's height. We also recommend selecting a blanket that corresponds to approximately 10% of your child’s body weight for optimal comfort.

A gentle "no" to polyester

At LALATOTO, we’ve made a deliberate choice to say no to polyester – and yes to nature. Instead of synthetic fibers, we work exclusively with natural materials like kapok.

It’s a choice that makes both development and production more complex and time-consuming. And yes, natural materials often come with a higher price tag. But for us, it’s an easy decision. Because this is about protecting your family – and the planet we all share.

Polyester is a synthetic fiber made from plastic through a chemical process. It’s not breathable and can shed microplastics into the environment. Kapok, by contrast, is 100% natural, organic, and sustainable. It’s hypoallergenic, breathable, and temperature-regulating – offering a healthier sleep environment, free from unnecessary chemicals and microplastics.

By choosing what nature has already perfected, we create products that are kind to both people and planet – without compromising on quality or performance. At the end of the day, it’s about making products we can stand behind – and that you can feel completely safe using, whether it’s for yourself or your little one.

A Nordic alternative to the sleeping bag

Our weighted blanket is inspired by the Nordic tradition of using duvets from the earliest age. It combines the natural softness of organic kapok with the calming effect of gentle weight – creating a sense of security without restricting movement.

For many families, it’s a beautiful next step when a sleeping bag or swaddling no longer feels right – or a way to bring the simplicity and warmth of Scandinavian sleep culture into everyday life.

The idea behind it all...

...came to me on a cold winter night in 2018, as I sat holding our little boy in my arms, facing yet another long night of frequent wakeups. The weighted blanket became our lifeline, and today I find comfort in knowing that our hardest year also became the year we created something that has since helped thousands of families in the same overwhelming situation we were once in.

What are the benefits of a weighted blanket?

A weighted blanket gives your child a gentle, even pressure across the body. It wraps them
in a soft, calming embrace – like a swaddle, just without the restriction. Arms
and legs are gently settled too, helping the whole body find rest.

A weighted blanket works in all sleep positions. Whether your child prefers sleeping on
their back, side, or tummy, the weight offers the same soothing effect.
Especially for toddlers who tend to toss and turn, the weight and closeness of
the blanket can help prevent them from waking themselves or kicking it off
during the night.

It’s also wonderfully simple to use. Just place it over your child like you would with a
regular blanket. And because it’s breathable and easy to adjust, you can
regulate temperature without disturbing their sleep. If they get too warm, simply
uncover their legs or feet.

There’s no age limit for a weighted blanket. Therefore, there is no need to worry when
your baby grows, starts standing, or moves more during sleep. For some
children, sleep struggles fade within the first two years. For others, the need
for regulation lasts longer, and that’s where a weighted blanket can continue
to be a big help - even for adults.

My baby runs warm – can we still use your weighted blanket?

Yes! Many babies, toddlers – and even adults – naturally run warm during sleep. That’s
why we’ve been very intentional in choosing breathable, temperature-regulating
materials for our blankets. Kapok - in particular - is incredibly effective at
maintaining a comfortable sleep temperature.

An often-overlooked factor in achieving calm and deep sleep is staying at the right temperature
throughout the night. That’s why it matters so much what your child (or yourself)
sleep in and under.

Kapok also doesn’t absorb moisture. Instead, it helps wick sweat away from the body and
into the air, keeping your little one dry and comfortable all night long.

What is the gravity mattress made of?

All of our weighted blankets are produced in Oeko-tex certified cotton, which ensures that the textile is free of substances harmful to health.

The duvet's filling consists of kapok and glass beads. We have carefully selected Kapok as a filling material for its sleep- and health-promoting properties:

Kapok is hypoallergenic as dust mites cannot live in it.
Kapok does not absorb moisture, but instead conducts sweat away from the body and into the room.
Kapok is ideal for sleeping environments, as neither bacteria, mold nor pesticides can live in Kapok.
When you choose products with Kapok instead of polyester, you protect both people and the environment from microplastics.

Does the duvet make noise?

Our weighted blanket neither rattles, crackles nor makes noise. It was important for us to develop an almost silent blanket, as especially sensitive babies and toddlers aged 1-3 are easily disturbed and insecure by extraneous noises.

The LALATOTO weighted duvet is therefore no more noisy than a regular down duvet, and therefore does not disturb either you or your sleeping child.
