Material selection
Natural. Gentle. Carefully selected.
At LALATOTO, we do not compromise on the materials closest to your child. Our products are created with care for both body and planet – and with the ambition that they should also be beautiful to look at. Every single detail is chosen with the heart first and our own children in mind – because we know that only the best is good enough when it comes to those we love most.
With our sleep universe, we want to create a place where you don't have to meticulously study content and specifications – because you can feel confident that our entire range is the natural alternative.
Below, you can learn more about the materials we are proud to use – and perhaps even more importantly: those we are proud not to use.

Kapok – A Love Story
Kapok is not just a plant fiber. It's a small miracle in a pod – silky soft, light as a cloud, and packed with properties that make it ideal as part of a healthy sleep environment.
Kapok fiber grows wild on kapok trees and is gently harvested by locals without the use of chemicals or pesticides. Kapok is naturally temperature-regulating and helps the body maintain a comfortable temperature throughout the night. This is particularly important for young children who cannot yet regulate their own body temperature.
Kapok is also naturally antibacterial, water-repellent, and resistant to dust mites. Its airy structure prevents moisture build-up, so neither bacteria nor dust mites thrive in the material. This makes kapok an obvious choice for babies, children, and adults with allergies – or as a preventative measure.
Despite kapok's fantastic properties, it is still not a widely used material. We ourselves became acquainted with it in an attempt to help our eldest son, who is severely affected by asthmatic bronchitis during the winter, and it was love at first night!
We didn't just sleep better. We experienced less night coughing, fewer runny noses and itching, and generally better and deeper sleep because body temperature is kept at a comfortable level throughout the night.
At LALATOTO, we use kapok in our weighted blankets, bed snakes, cot bumpers, and other soft products where you would otherwise typically find polyester.

100% cotton – always Oeko-Tex® certified
We do not use blended products, only pure cotton – and always at least Oeko-Tex® Standard 100 certified. This means that you can be sure that the fabric is free from harmful chemicals – and therefore safe to sleep with night after night.

Natural stone – luxury rooted in nature
In our search for materials that require as little processing as possible, we came across natural stones. That's why, for our Luxury Bed Sausage, we chose small, rounded natural stones for weight. It doesn't get much more down-to-earth than that.

Glass beads - silent weight in our weighted blankets and vests
We use fine, small glass beads as a weighted filling in our weighted products. The glass beads are silent, hypoallergenic, and almost imperceptible. They provide a comfortable, even weight that supports the body's need for pressure and embrace.

We never use polyester – neither as filling nor in textiles.
Polyester? No thanks!
Polyester is a synthetic material often used in baby and children's products because it is cheap and easy to produce. However, polyester is plastic and can release microplastics during use, into the air we breathe, and when washed. This is not good for the skin, indoor air quality, or the environment.
Furthermore, polyester is almost impossible to recycle. When plastic is recycled to make polyester – rather than, for example, packaging – the plastic's life cycle is interrupted. We believe this is a huge problem.
At LALATOTO, we want to create safe, natural products with respect for both body and planet. That's why we've completely opted out of polyester, even though it makes our solutions more expensive and challenging to produce.
Natural materials cost more to source and work with, but we believe it's an investment worth making.
We believe that the natural choice is also the right choice. Especially when it comes to the most precious things we have.
